  • Post-war Entrepreneurship:

In 1946, co-founded Mississippi Valley Aircraft Service (MVAS) in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Innovation & Industry Leadership at MVAS

  • Pioneer in Ag Aviation Equipment:

MVAS became a national leader in the manufacture and sale of agricultural spraying and dusting equipment.

  • Significant Achievements:
    • Developed and sold the first effective spraying system for Stearman aircraft, the Aero Mist-Master, with hundreds sold across the US and internationally.
    • Created the patented Instant-Change Unit for Stearman aircraft, allowing quick transformation from dust to spray application—units sold globally.
    • MVAS received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installing 300 hp Lycoming engines on Stearmans (A75L300), enhancing their capability and utility.

Industry Organization & Leadership

  • State Association Building:
    • In 1956, co-organized and became a charter signer of the Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association (MsAAA).
    • Served as MsAAA president for four terms.
    • After selling MVAS in 1970, served as Executive Director of MsAAA until his retirement.
    • Received the Honorary Lifetime Membership award from MsAAA.
  • National Association Promotion:
    • One of the organizers and promoters of the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA).
    • Recognized for contributions to the national advancement and advocacy of the ag aviation industry.

Historic Preservation & Legacy

  • Museum Founding & Board Service:
    • Played a key role in the creation of the National Agricultural Aviation Museum in Jackson, Mississippi.
    • Served on the Museum Foundation Board, helping guide preservation efforts for the industry’s history.
  • Documentation & Storytelling:
    • Author of “Low and Slow: An Insider’s History of Agricultural Aviation”
    • Book first published in serial form in NAAA’s Agricultural Aviation magazine.
    • Multiple printings by FMC Corporation, the author, and AgAir Update.
    • Thousands of copies distributed worldwide, ensuring the stories and advancements of ag aviation are preserved for future generations.

  • NAAA Outstanding Service Award — received twice, in 1973 and 1981.
